About Soulfaring

Welcome to Soulfaring. I am Alexander, a biomedical scientist-turned-author based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In 2025, I walked away from my research career to rebuild an old, broken sailboat and navigate the rugged shores of Scotland. But more than that, it was a way to rebuild myself. Soulfaring is my exploration of recovering from burnout, mourning the loss of a dream career, and then falling back in love with the world by getting closer to nature and myself through sailing.

If you love nature writing and are as interested as I am in the richness and the soul-healing that comes from being out in the wild, please subscribe. I’ll invite you to breathe in the salty sea air, the rich mossy air of an ancient forest, or the sweet peat of a river, and bring you along on my adventures.

I want this to be a sanctuary for everyone who loves nature and the written word. A space where we can collectively explore life, connection, mental health, and purpose through the lens of writing and stories. Where we can all get a sense of belonging as creatures of earth and water.

I also share regular updates and insights into writing my memoir titled Sailing to Save My Soul. I post excerpts from the manuscript, and the process of writing it. It’s my attempt to stay authentically connected to myself and share in the human experience with a wider community.

I publish the newsletter every Saturday.
